Swap sounds or letters

The 'swap sounds' and 'swap letters' tools can be used to write irregular words that contain unusual letter-sound patterns, such as the words 'was, said' and 'you'. To use the 'swap sounds' or 'swap letters' tools, write the word with letter-sound tiles, then tap on the "tools" button:

You can swap sounds with another letter-sound tile by using the 'swap sounds' tool:

To swap a speech sound from a tile in the word you wrote: 

  1. hold down the 'swap sounds' tool until it pops out

  2. drag it over the tile you would like to change the sound for

  3. drop it on the tile

  4. pick up a tile with the speech sound you need

  5. drop the new tile onto the tile you want to swap sounds with   

In this case, the instructor uses the 'swap sounds' tool to show the student that the 'ou' part of the word 'you' corresponds to an /oo/ sound, as in 'spoon'.
